Default Windows Installer Versions

Hi:

I upgraded Windows Installer (msi.dll) from version 3.1.4001.5512 to the
latest version 4.5.6001.22159 and would like to roll it back to prior
version 3.1.4001.5512 due to apparent problems with one application.

I tried to replace the msi.dll version 4.5.6001.22159 with version
3.1.4001.5512, but unable to do so even in Safemode. I even tried renaming
the file msi.dll where I could replace it.but that would not work either.

Any help will be appreciated.
