Default Windows Power Shell???

I was investigating and reorganizing my Windows start menu's and I was
stupified to find one called "Windows Power Shell".
Any ideas what this is?
I certainly don't remember having installed this myself and I'm not demented
yet... at least I hope...
I suppose it may have come unasked with some other software?

Windows® PowerShell is a new command-line shell and scripting
language designed for system administration and automation.

Windows Powershell is a kind of super batch scripting language. I don't
think it came installed with XP originally, so you must have installed
it at some later time. I believe it's now a standard feature of Vista
and later.

I have it installed, but I have yet to delve very far into it.

Seems to me it was at one time presented as an optional download from
Windows Update. That might explain it.

Google still works:

http://www.google.com/search?q=windows+powershell

First hit was a Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_PowerShell

It came as a non-critical update presented at the Windows Update site.
It is your choice to install it or not. If you don't want it (and don't
expect anything you install or scripts you use from elsewhere to require
its presence) then choose to hide it in the list of Windows updates.
Alas, you might still end up getting it as it is bundled with other MS
software since admin-level scripts for the product might use PowerShell.

It gets installed under C:\WINDOWS\system32\WindowsPowerShell. The
installers destination path is not user configurable. So how big is
that folder on your host? Mine is pretty small at under 9 MB.

What are you talking about? PowerShell did not come with XP SP3. It
has to be specifically installed as a separate optional download and has
nothing to do with any XP service pack. Likewise, Windows Movie Maker
came with Windows XP long before there were any XP service packs.
Additionally, there is no relationship between PowerShell and Movie
Maker.
