MS Security Essence
OK so MS is giving up on their best OS Win XP Pro.
No more support. No more security essentials. Frapppppp to them! So, what free stuff is out there that will replace what MS is dropping? I plan to keep my Win XP Pro going until my PCs (several) bite the dust. (As an aside, others I know are still running Win 98 with no problems.) --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

I didn't like Windows until Windows 3.1 back in '93. So I have experience with Windows since then and I only skipped Vista. And I have been involved with computers and other OS since the 70's. And I didn't like XP at all until XP SP2. And since then XP became one of the most well polished OS of all time in history. Anything from Microsoft or anybody else just hasn't got there yet. And while this is a bit of hind side, I've been saying for many years that XP was the most popular and most used OS of all time. And yes, I still use it a lot. ;-) -- Bill Dell Latitude Slate Tablet 128GB SSD ('12 era) - Thunderbird v12 Intel Atom Z670 1.5GHz - 2GB RAM - Windows 8 Pro |

You might bite the dust from malware infection before your PCs do. (As an aside, others I know are still running Win 98 with no problems.) They should consider them selves lucky. What you say is like saying "others I know are still driving their cars without seatbelts and with no problems." |

What you say is like saying "others I know are still driving their cars without seatbelts and with no problems." Ha. And people with cars that have seat-belts are not wearing them. The risky behaviour is all around us. But you can use any OS in a manor that has very little risk. And I have all kinds of protection on my Win 7 Pro and XP PCs (all with the latest updates) and I get to crash them (not for fun) so it all depends on what we are doing. --- news://freenews.netfront.net/ - complaints: --- |

I've been running WinXP 7 years on several computers without _ever_ having updated. I've never had a malware infection.
