Sounds like the Start button is coming back. And it will allow running
Metro apps on the desktop.

So users get a service pack 2 that gets renamed as a major version just
so Microsoft can distance themself from the Windows "8" debacle. Seems
Microsoft should follow Google (who influenced Mozilla to do the same)
and continually push out new releases so users get lost about the
version differences and faster forget the bad versions.

microsoft could restart the cycle giving to new kids windows 3.1 after
windows 8.1 but it seems we've to wait for windows 95 somewhere in another
place . Windows 8.1 is the end of windows saga. I'll be fired from business.
Don't know what to do next.

@BillW50
Start Menu advocates might just get what they don't want
- A fan out menu that provides the exact same groupings on the 8.1 All
Apps modern UI screen

@VanguardLH
- Version aside...the flexibility to accommodate the use of one o/s
across all devices (desktop, phone, tablets, Xbox) will prevail as will
the 'necessity to upgrade' to next build from within the o/s via the
Store or purchase the full version media. Likewise, deploying program
and security updates via WU/MU could easily be another 'Store' only route.

@Migrante
- Considering you removed Windows Photo Gallery because someone asked
a question about which program was used to post a graphic....maybe
sticking with Win95 and 3.1 is a good idea.

How many deck chairs can they move by April 2015 ?

That's not a lot of time for those deck chairs.

Maybe if they put the deck chairs on casters, they could
move them around faster :-) "That will be $39.95 for
the deck chair rotation, please and thank you." :-)

I'm hoping maybe they'll improve the behavior of
the OS when it's under load. That's my hope.
I don't give a rats ass any more about that Start button.

One thing I like on windows 8, more than what I saw on win 8.1, is the
possibilty to install a third-party start. If you have windows 8.1, you must
use metro.
But that's theory. I think it doesn't work as well as original microsoft
start menu.

You can do that with 8.1, too.

No, you don't.

You would have 2 start menus.

I use Classic Shell with Windows 8.1, and I have only one start menu,
unless you count the Modern UI as a "start menu". This is exactly the
same as it was with Windows 8.

Didn't know that was possible. Thought non-microsoft start menu would have
trouble to boot.

Also sounds like a whole lot more bloat.

Well put.

No, read the article. The major version (according to the article)
will be in April *2015*, but service pack 2 (if you want to call it
that) will be in April *2014.*

But it remains to be seen whether any of what he says will be true.
Such rumors seldom are.
