Default Strange Happenings In XP-3 & Latest Firefox.

For the past few days several things have been happening that I can't
figure out.
1. Hypertext links have been showing up on some of my regular sites,
such as my local library. Listings of books I have out that are in
plain text have random hyperlinks that when clicked, pop up a site for
various upgrades that do not look official. If I shut down the site
and go to it again, there are hyperlinks under different words in the
text. There have been as many as 8 on one listing of books.

2. Other sites that I go to, a pop up (full screen) appears for other
sites. and when I click the return arrow it goes back to the original
site. I have run two differenct virus scans and they have found
nothing.

It is getting annoying and I fear there could be some serious problems
that are going to occur.

There is a mechanism for this, and it's been documented in
the news recently.

1) People make add-ons for browsers.
2) The add-ons have auto-update features.
3) Adware people make a financial offer to the add-on
author, offering to buy it from the author. Author
thinks nothing of it, and makes a deal.
4) Adware people modify source code for add-on,
push out update. Suddenly, web page content
is being "automagically" modified. New advertisements
appear on the page. Adware people make a fortune, from
"impressions" you the victim, are forced to watch.
This is why you're finding funny links.

This means you should review your plug-ins and add-ons,
for anything coming from small-time developers. So while
Adobe won't be selling the code for Flash anytime soon,
some developer making "RSS feed lister" or "Pencil Sharpener 2.0"
may decide to sell out, and the Adware people turn the users
into victims.

You have to be *very selective*, about what you add to browsers.
And even people you've trusted for years, to make add-ons,
you never know when they may have a brain fart, and sell out.

If Firefox is operated with all that added on rubbish
disabled (Safe Mode ?), the added links should stop.

Also running a computer with Windows XP-SP3 and latest updates including
FireFox. Have not encountered any issues as described above.

However, in a new Windows 7 installation setup for client, the malware
known as Sendori got inadvertently incorporated through a supposedly
newly updated app as an add-in. Anti-virus and anti-malware scans do
not detect it as its files work via the dynamic link library. We found
it because we never installed a program named "Sendori". You might have
to some detective work to uncover what had gotten installed. Good luck.

Sendori is not a Microsoft App.

Always Microsoft for Microsoft

Sendori is not a Microsoft App.

Always Microsoft for Microsoft

We reading the same thing? Thought OP was asking about XP-3 and latest
Firefox. Nothing exclusive here to just Microsoft.
