Hi
I've managed to download MesNews without a problem, so far. This is my
first post & hope it gets out there to you all. It took forever for all
the newsgroups to load, like thousands! I'm either ready for a drink or
bed after this. lol Tomorrow is another day with a clear head to learn
the ins & outs how this program works. I don't ever recall having to
wait so long for all these newsgroups to load so I hope I did
everything okay. If this has any spelling errors please excuse that'll
be the next step to get done. So far what I'm seeing..I like!
Again thank you for all your help, I couldn't have done any of this
without your support.
Take care.......

You can set your X-ICQ header value to something other than the default.
I don't know if zero turns it off entirely or not.

Other than that, the first setup step was easy for me.
Understanding their subscription and header updates features,
left me scratching my head. So the most difficult part is
ahead of you. I found the tool a bit wasteful of bandwidth,
if left to its own devices.

I'm not understanding what this X-ICQ header value is & what it does so
you'll have to explain it to me. If you don't mind.
Thanks!

I believe Paul is referring to your posts to newsgroup creates a header
of information attached to your messages. Depending on your reader, you
can view all of the header information. And yours has an added entry
called X-ICQ and displays a number after it. I am not sure, but it could
be your ICQ number. I don't know how MesNews knows what your number is,
but I believe this is what Paul is referring too.

Except that page shows File/Parameters with five tabs and I have
File/Settings with 7 tabs. Be warned.

ICQ is for chatting. The number is your "address", when someone
wants to "phone" you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icq

You don't want to advertise someone else's ICQ number,
so that should be set to something more obvious or
turned off if you can figure out how.

Since that particular default value is probably posted
by lots of mesnews users, it likely isn't used for
anything important. Still, it's the principle of the
thing. Try to adjust header content, for the kind of
information you want to share with people.

The header of the message in this case, can be seen here.
I enter the message ID (MID) here http://al.howardknight.net/
and then I can look at the message without any decorations
by a newsreader program.

I am trying to figure out whose post you answered.

I was just pointing out that the help file BillW50 referred to had
errors, probably due to its not being updated when the MesNews program
was changed.

That's funny, I'm trying to figure it out too :-) Hmmm.

I could have sworn I replied to the first one.

I was probably reading the other answers and thought I was
still responding to the one further up. Perils of
multitasking.
