Default Backup synce

I have been using a backup sync program for many years, but there is
something that I wish it would do.

When cleaning up my harddrive I frequently move a file from one folder
to the other. While the software I currently uses lets me see and
decide what is out of sync with the full directory name, I would like to
compare by file name only.

Let say I move XXXX from folder FFFF to folder OOOO. My current
software would show

/FFFF/XXXX
/OOOO/XXXX

I would like the sync software to show the files as

XXXX /FFFF
XXXX /OOOO

In this way if I move XXXX from /FFFF to /OOOO, it would be easier to
determine which files I have moved during the sync operation.

You could use a program like Search Everything to display your entire
sync tree sorted by file name. The first column would show the X's and
the second the F's and O's.

You mean like SyncBack does it?

Hard to say. I couldn't see a picture of how they do it, even in the
user guide.

Got a link?

That is the program that I have been using. My desire is to sort the
proposed changes window by the short file name (XXXXXXX.EEE) not the
full file name with all of the directories. (c:/x/x/x/XXXXXXX.EEE)

Except for that, I would highly recommend Syncback to any one looking
for sync/back up software.

If it can sort by the short file name I am unaware of how to do it.

Hi, Keith.

Don't forget that "short filename" and "long filename" are terms that
already have established meanings. The term "filename" means the entire
name BEFORE the file extension, even if it is only a single character. And
if it is not allowed in an 8.3 filename, that single character becomes an
LFN. See this link for some details:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8.3_filename

That Wikipedia article starts with this:
An 8.3 filename (also called a short filename or SFN) is a filename
convention used by old versions of DOS, versions of Microsoft Windows
prior to Windows 95, and Windows NT 3.51. It is also used in modern
Microsoft operating systems as an alternate filename to the long filename
for compatibility with legacy programs.

Keep this in mind when you are looking for answers on this topic. In this
thread, we know what you mean, but without this context, your question
might get some strange answers. ?{
