Block Pushed (Automatic) Updates by Non-Microsoft Application
Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 (x64)
I am using AVG Free 2016 (x64) as my anti-virus application. A major difference between AVG Free 2015 and AVG Free 2016 is that the latter removed the option found in the former that would allow me to block pushed updates of AVG. I really do not like any automatic updates of any application on my PC. I want to control what gets updated and when it happens. Is there some Windows 7 setting that I can use to block AVG's pushed updates, perhaps in the Windows firewall? -- David E. On the left side of the Windows Firewall window, I selected "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall". On the Allows Programs window, I removed the checkmarks from the checkboxes for AVG Installer. Is this sufficient? -- David E. In the Advanced Settings /Schedules I have the options to allow/disallow auto scheduled scans, definition updates and program updates. Have they removed all those options? I can't find any complaint in Google. The update program in AVG2015 is "avgmfapx.exe". You can block it in your firewall, and you'll probably get some complaints from AVG; an exclamation mark in the systray and God knows what else when you run it. Ed |
