Default Eicar test file

I thought that the eicar test file was supposed to be found by virus scanners.

MRT did not flag it.

Is it no longer a virus test file ?

If it's this one, there is a list near the bottom
of what it detects. It might not be a general purpose
AV, and it just detects specific ones. A fairly short
list.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/890830

If you use a free offline scanner, such as the BitDefender CD,
the Kaspersky CD, or, you use one of the online (realtime)
scanners that is free, those are all general-purpose AV
programs with a 100MB definition file to control them.
Those will all detect EICAR.

The MRT doesn't claim to find more than a few common, especially
troublesome pieces of malware. There's no reason it should find
eicar.
