Motherboard Swap... Authenticate?
Hi,
My WinXP SP3 box has a failing MB. It is a SOYO Dragon KT 880 and I have another, reportedly good, used one that I've kept on hand for years. I do not know that the BIOS would be exact, but it should be close enough and I have recorded all settings from the current one. Will I have to authenticate this with MS and if XP is dead, how will that go? Anything else to watch for? Thanks in advance. |

If it is the same MB then you should have no problems. -- Dave Multi-AV Scanning Tool - http://multi-av.thespykiller.co.uk http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp |

If you get that message all you should have to do is enter your 25 digit code and log into the MS site. They are not really trying to authenticate XP anymore. You just go through the motions |

You just go through the motions If the MBs are different there will be some drivers issues. If Windows doesn't start, boot with the Windows installation CD and try a repair install. When you boot from the CD, choose INSTALL when the first CD menu appears, it will find the already installed Windows, you select it and press "R". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNOQ0sCYY8s You will need your Windows key, the drivers for the "new" MB and the Windows CD must be the same type (Home, Pro) and SP level than the installed Windows (SP3?). Oups, I my reply was for the OP. |
