O.T. Slow Start-up
How do I determine if FF is using more than
2GB of Ram? No FF is not struggling unless I open a news story then it struggles. I disabled the Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) but it won't let me disable the Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) http://i68.tinypic.com/x2kpi1.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/14jx2z7.jpg I will try a reboot Robert |

Rebooted, and it's doing the same thing.
Now why should this of happened out of the blue when it was working fine with no problems? My bandwidth shouldn't be a problem because it wasn't previously and we've proven it's not the .NET In fact, I can think of nothing that I have done that would have caused this? My 8500 is a quad core? really? 'If' I can get the 8500 up and connected again maybe I should do a Mrimg install? See if that helps,.. What do you think ? Robert |

I've tried twice and now when I try to start
troubleshooting it says 'A problem is preventing the toubleshooter from starting'. It's not getting better Robert |

Also it's bypassing the screen where it flashes
the type of boot you want but goes directly to the Windows logo then sign-on page. So it's Directly to the Windows page. Also it still doesn't play the signoff sound and I have to force it. Robert |

If I can't connect this time
(this is getting tedious) then I think I'll use the hammer and install the spare HD. I'm all for learning but it's very frustrating when I can't even connect and now troubleshooter won't work which was my only way of connecting previously. Actually, I shouldn't even need to use it to connect because I didn't previously but all of a sudden I got this connectivity issue? Robert |

its gone from bad to worst.
I put the spare 2TB HD in and it came back with this: Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert Windows installation disk (they didn't provide any just utilities) 2. choose your language settings, and then click 'next' 3. Click 'repair your computer.' If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. (it would be nice if they just included the disk) Status: 0xc000000e Info: The boost selection failed because a required device is in accessible. So will put the other HD bnack in and cross my fingers. Oh it seems my keyboard is the bluetooth Robert |

I tried to load the Rescue disk and it did
come up but when searching for Mrimgs the folder was empty !?!! Now I know for a fact that I did mrimg backups for both the 8500 and the 780 on the first of the month. So I re-installed the old drive and it's at least on the desktop but so far no connection. I think maybe it was a mistake disabling the bluetooth because now it won't let me enable it. Everything here is getting worst not better and how in the hell do I loose a HD and all my Mrimg files and loose my internet connection when all was fine a week ago? Robert |

O.T. Slow Start-up
I re-installed the HD and it came up
so will now create a new Mrimg backup file on the external HD and will Clone the 2TB spare again. I'm not shutting down again till we resolve some issues about whats causing this. It's been very frustrating doing this and I prefer to just get everything up and running again which was the purpose behind buying the external HD and spare HD so I wouldn't have to spend hours/days trying to get my computer up and running. I'm all for learning but this is not a good case for doing so. I would rather just do a Mrimg, or swamp drives instead of trying to figure out something that is beyond me... Robert |

This has popped up a few times:
http://i66.tinypic.com/2j2xb1s.jpg I completed a new Mrimg backup: http://i63.tinypic.com/rrscn7.jpg I then connected the 2TB external spare via USB but the 8500 doesn't see it. So I have to wait till I reboot or shutdown to remove the USB safely. Thoughts/Suggestions? Robert |

If Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit won't start, that would be "suspicious". Especially if it worked before. The 2TB drive that you "cannot see", you need to visit Disk Management and put it Online again. I would hope that the online/offline status, would not affect the ability of the disk to boot. I don't really know how the online/offline status of USB disks is tracked. I would hope the hosting OS is the thing keeping track of the status, and nothing on the drive itself is affected. You can disconnect the infected drive, remove the other drive from its USB enclosure (the one that has a C: on it for emergencies), then boot that drive. If it does not start, it may offer to do boot repair. Or, maybe if you have a recovery CD, there is a boot repair option in there ? I don't end up doing too many boot repairs here, so I don't recollect all the various options for getting there. This site has many tutorials. There are multiple pages of tutorials that start with the letter "S". http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials "Startup Repair" - you can boot from a CD and use the item shown, to repair the C: and setup on the hard disk connected at the moment. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...air.html?ltr=S Paul |

I finally found my Mrimg files;
http://i63.tinypic.com/23vmgk5.jpg this is where it said they were going: http://i63.tinypic.com/258sbol.jpg I went into computer management but it shows nothing. All HD's are bootable, so the 2TB Seagate should work. The only other HD is my 2TB WD (which I use as my primary external HD backup for Mrimgs for the 8500) because I didn't like the noise (remember?) The only other 2TB HD is a spare for the 780 which is also bootable. Robert |

what was that alternate command you gave me
awhile back to safely remove from the USB port? Could we not do that then reset it then clone the 2TB Seagate spare drive? I would rather not put more drives at risk especially one where all my Mrimgs reside until we know a little more of whats causing the problem. Robert |

As far as Start-up repair,...
Dell only provided two disks with the 8500. Drivers and Documentation (monitor) device drivers setup guide users guide Dell display Manager Drivers and Utilities (it says, Use this disk only to reinstall the software already installed on your computer) device drivers Utilities So I don't know how to proceed with a problem that came out of nowhere and now one HD doesn't respond? Robert You had a program with a name like USB_Safely_Remove. One of your icons on the desktop has a name like that. I think you were testing that, back when one of the drives was showing NTFS TXF transactional write activity. And using Disk Management and using the Offline option, as the only way to stop the TXF from happening. One thing that concerns me in the three pictures, that I don't understand, is you've plugged in the USB drive, and there is a partition called "OS" and it has the drive letter F: . But the USB card reader in the front of the computer, also has drive letters like F: , G: , and so on. http://i63.tinypic.com/23vmgk5.jpg July backup http://i63.tinypic.com/258sbol.jpg XML backup definitions http://i65.tinypic.com/14mbfch.jpg Overlapping F: definition ??? F: not present, no disk row for it Now, I don't know if that's causing the USB drive to have this ("cannot remove") problem or not. I understand that if no media is plugged into the card reader, then no drive letter is present in the system. But if the USB card reader is assigned letters, and they're the same letters as an actual hard drive plugged into USB, maybe it is getting confused ? At the very least, you could do part of the solution at the bottom posting of this thread. The person used Disk Management and moves the card reader letters to a place they won't (immediately) conflict. http://superuser.com/questions/34211...drives-letters He changed his "F,G,H,I" to "M,N,O,P". The interface is in Disk Management, and you can change drive letters in the menu for a partition (right-click, "Change drive letters"). ******* As the moment, I could see you using the emergency drive, to do a restore to the (infected) system drive. I don't know whether I'd be cloning anything right now. Maybe the problem with the 2TB that holds your emergency OS and your July2016 backups, is that there is a drive letter conflict. That's all I see of interest in the pictures right now. Paul |
