Default Shockwave Flash update repeatedly fails.

Micky wrote:
I have version 47.0.1 of Firefox on my winXPSP3 netbook.

I think that's the latest version because I think I updated just a
week ago, but now that I'm trying to update Shockwave Flash, it keeps
failing. At least 3 times. It looks like it's running fine until it
fails (duh!).

It doesn't give a code.

Any ideas?

I can't cross post to the XP and the FF groups because they're on a
different server, is that right? Well, we'll see.

Please don't tell me I don't need it, because videos at C-Span require
it, and maybe elsewhere. When it magically disappeared from my Vista
computer, I was okay until I wanted to watch the Republican convention
on C-Span and it screamed bloody murder. By the time I downloaded the
first part, and the second part, etc. I missed most of what I wanted
to watch! Well, 10 minutes.

And those in the FF group, please dont' tell me I shouldn't use XP. I
use the netbook 10 days a year and I'm not buying another netbook for
10 days a year.

The mozilla.support.firefox is best accessed on its own server.
In shorthand form, something like. It looks like you've successfully
posted here before, but I can't figure out exactly how. The header
I see is a mess. Mentions a mailing list as well. And that
you're a NoAuthUser.

Mozilla "newsgroups" are firstly a mailing list. There is no guarantee
of delivery with e-mail protocols: you submit to one server that
hopefully connects with another server (SMTP to SMTP) and hopefully the
message gets accepted and hopefully it gets deposited into the
recipient's mailbox past any filtering. There is no direct connection
when using a mailing list as there is with NNTP (client connects
directly to server) although there can be peering issues within the
worldwide mesh network of NNTP servers. Later Mozilla added an NNTP
gateway to their mailing list to enlarge their audience to include
Usenet.

I suspect a NoAuthUser means the sender (Micky) is not a designated
moderator as configured in Mozilla's mailing service. Ilias is a
moderator over there; however, when he posts, he also has the
"X-AuthenticatedUsername: NoAuthUser" header, so he posts just like
everyone else. It is when he gets around to his moderator duties that
he can send messages via e-mail to the mailing server to reject or
approve the pending submissions.

Although I post to the Mozilla newsgroups (for those that manage to get
Ilias' approval and if performed before the pending submission expires),
you'll notice my posts also have a slew of those mailing list headers.
I don't use e-mail to participate in those newsgroups. I use NNTP. The
headers get added by their NNTP gateway's interface to their mailing
server to then spew out the posts there to those that still access the
Mozilla's mailing lists, er, "newsgroups" via e-mail. So despite that I
accessed their newsgroups via NNTP, those submissions still have to get
delivered to their mailing server (and where submissions will pend
awaiting approval messages from the moderator).

I did it the normal way, by putting the name of the Mozilla server as
a second news server in my news agent (Agent).

But this time, because multi-posting is discouraged and cross-posting
seemed the right thing to do if it would work, I tried it.

Well that's pretty good. It's the highest rank I' ve been awarded
this month.

I did not know that.

Well, good for them. I would have preferred it if they had propogated
their news via the same servers all my other ng's are on, but perhaps
what you say here has a lot to do with why they didn't.

(I just checked and eternal-sepember does have a firefox group, but
it's in French. Maybe I'll learn French, except it refers to it as
firefox-os. alt.os.comp.fr.firefox-os, or something like that, as if
it's an OS! I guess they are imitating Chrome.

I hadn't noticed that. I did notice his name in the credits for FF,
on the About page, I think, but never looked at his headers.

Really, very interesting.

I"ll email this to myself so that I get it in the netbook, and I will
use it to install.

Thanks.
