Default Takes Too Long

Win XP Pro all updates installed.

Select A File
Look In:

Try to drop down the Look In: box and it takes nearly a minute sometimes
to populate and get a selection available.

After that it is much quicker.

What can be causing this?
How to fix?

On a laptop with SSD (so no slow HDD).

What is a "Look in"?
My XP3 machines do not seem to have that.

This is the only one I know of, in the Search box.

And opening that drop-down menu, is more strenuous than
opening Disk Management, as it is likely to display
file shares. And a broken external reference could
take a while to resolve (a mapping that no longer exists).

Oh! I see. Thanks Paul. Searching for non-existent stuff would take a while.
I have not used that in at least 10 years, since installing SearchEverything.

Start "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer", click on "Tools", "Disconnect Network Drive" and see if there are any invalid or unusable entries. If so, remove them.

Ben

So how do I reconnect them when I get home on my LAN ?

Typically, you just click "Tools", "Map Network Drive". Please note that there is a box marked "Reconnect at logon" that you can check or uncheck.
