Reversing the "Start" button menu.
When I press the "Start" button, it shows the things that I use most
often at the top, with other popular or recently installed programs below that. It seems to me that it would be more logical to have the most used things near the bottom so more easily reached. Can this be easily achieved?? TIA Daniel |

I installed Classic Shell from http://www.classicshell.net/. It allows me to drag-and-drop entries in [Start Programs] and sort the the way I want. However, it also allows me to sort the entries alphabetically, which is what I prefer. -- David E. Ross The Crimea is Putin's Sudetenland. The Ukraine will be Putin's Czechoslovakia. People think it's only for Windows 8/10, but it does some very nice things for Windows 7, too. |

It's a Laptop, so that would mean I cannot see the keys at all. Some might suggest that would be good! ;-P Daniel |

Daniel David, as I continued reading this group, I came across the thread "trash bin menu" and reading VanguardLH's post, I checked out the Desktop folder under my Profile, but, of course, it was only the Desktop Icons, not the stuff that shows in the "Start" menu. Oh, well!! Daniel The contents of [Start Programs] are in [C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu]. However, the order of that folder's contents does NOT affect the order in which the items appear when you select [Start Programs]. I configured another Start folder in [C:\Users\*****\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\S tart Menu], where "*****" is the name of my Windows account (David). Unless an application insists it must start from [C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu], I have all my Start contents in [C:\Users\*****\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\S tart Menu]. Again, the order of that folder's contents does not affect the order I see when I select Start. -- David E. Ross http://www.rossde.com/. I don't know about fixing the excessive redesign of the Start Menu. It's designed for marketing. I'm guessing what you want is to get rid of those "suggested" or recently used items and just see "All Programs" in the first place, like the original Start Menu. I've never looked into doing that. But you can reorganize it. The Start Menu program list represents the Start Menu folder hierarchy. Go into the Start Menu folder for yourself and for all Users. Put all links in one or the other. I just move any links in my "user" Start Menu folder to All Users. Then do as you like with them. I like to make parent folders. I create folders like Graphics, Utilities, Office, etc. Then I put only the EXE link in those. For instance, I put IrfanView and Paint Shop Pro program shortcuts in Graphics, deleting all the junk like the IrfanView folder, online links and uninstall links. The result is a compact, clean, efficient Start Menu with flyout submenus showing only items that you actually want and use. |

Yes, by moving the Task Bar to the top of your display rather than its default position at the bottom. -- Char Jackson |
