Default Windows Messenger and Voice and Whiteboard problems

I am running Windows XP with Internet Connection Firewall
off and Zone Alarm 3.7.143. I have no problems using
Windows Messenger for text chat, but cannot have Voice
Conversations or use the Whiteboard. The person I am
chatting with runs Windows XP without any 3rd party
firewalls (possibly uses ICF).

I have shut down Zone Alarm and restarted Windows
Messenger to attempt Voice Conversation and Whiteboard
use, but always get the error message "The network or
computer you are trying to reach is experiencing a
problem. Please try again later.". The person I have
tried to have voice conversations with has chatted
successfully on at least 2 occasions with other people,
so it appears the problem is at my end. Can anyone help?
