Lexmark Printing in WindowsXP to a Z32 Attached to a Windows2000 Server
Thanks for the information but I had tried all that already. I tried it
again just in case. It is very strange. I attempted to use the Microsoft Troubleshooter and it kept indicating that there was a Network connection problem Which is interesting because there are other times when WinXP has indicated a Network problem, yet I am logged in and can browse the server? I use Offline Files and it incidates that I am no longer connected to the server. If I click to check status it sycronized and then the disconnect notice is eliminated. I need to explore the overall picture first. Perhaps this printing problem will also be fixed as well. Thanks again Mark "Michael Jacobson" wrote in message ... Install the XP drivers on the XP computer. Make sure that the printer is indicated as a shared printer on the computer that it is attached to. Install the printer as a network printer by searching for the printer on the perperties section. That way you have the printer on the proper computer using the proper drivers for the program that you are using to generate the print file. -----Original Message----- Sorry to post this to two similtanous groups, I know I am not supposed to do this but since my issue involves both platforms I thought this might be the best way to handle it. Here is my issue: I have a Lexmark Z32 that is attached to LPT1 on my Windows 2000 (Advanced) Server. It works perfectly on anything that I print from the W2K Server. But when I attempt to print from either of my WinXP workstations to the shared printer I have problems. I have downloaded the XP driver and installed that on the two workstations. I have attempted to install the driver in a couple different ways. First, I browse to the shared printer and have it install the drivers. The only problem here is that it is downloading the NT/2000 driver, not the XP. So I install the driver manually from the file downloaded from Lexmark's site. I point it at the port that was created during the first install. Still no luck. I have tried different Print Processors - both Lexmark Printing and WinPrint, still no difference. I have tried using Bi- Directional Printing and disabling it. No difference. I did manage to configure the cartridges on the XP machine's driver. It appears to want to start spooling; I even hear the printer start to move, but then nothing. I get an error message on the XP machine and then look at the queue on the W2K machine, and it is empty. Any suggestions here? Has anyone found any settings that work on this or any of the other "lower end" Lexmark printers. I was going to scan Ebay to see if buying a Lexmark Print Server would make a difference. I want to check here first. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Mark . |
