Experts? - how many times can you tell people to reinstall drivers ???
-----Original Message----- The answer to everyone's problem is not ..."there are three ways to delete and reinstall...." blah blah blah.. People here would like a little better shot at it. Like check you BIOS version, check your USB connections, something other than delete and reinstall the latest print drivers... . i agree and disagree with your post,a large majority of printer wont reinstall issues or install for first time are driver related issues with leftover files. i too wonder since i talk to customers all day and some have printer issues and less than half are solved by just uninstalling drivers and deleting drivers from server properties and rebooting why cari(yes we all know this post is about cari) doesnt list the many other locations in the system and in the registry which add/remove and server property drivers doesnt remove. so while cari is giving good standard advice to try i know from professional experience from dealing with customers that it isnt close to 100% effective granted most people dont call for help so i see a very small percentage of the overall who experience this issue, but the ones i see less than half are solved by cari's posted and reposted steps, which i consider a good first step but certainly not a fix all. |

While I can sympathise with everyone who does have problems, this is a
newsgroup and trying to elicit enough information from a new user's posting as to exactly what the problem with their printer might be can be extremely trying at times. As a telephone support person, you at least have the opportunity to talk to them on a one to one basis and walk them through your instructions in real time. You presumably get paid for this service. The MVPs are volunteers who do NOT get paid for the assistance they give. I am not 'glued' to the newsgroups 24/7 waiting for posts to arrive and answer. I have another life. I have a husband. Many a time I have gotten up from the PC to put the laundry in the dryer when it's finished it washing cycle, or taken five minutes to empty the dishwasher... or update my website...read a book or two, go shopping, watch tv, even sleep at night. And then there's my own work to do! Strange but true. If folks want one to one technical support for their problems and instant answers, there are plenty of other locations they can seek assistance from. Like anyone else, they can pick up the phone and call either their PC vendor, Microsoft, the technical support staff at their local retail store etc etc. We do our best. As I am sure you do. But I am also sure that no one has ALL the answers. Each PC and printer is different. Most PCs are nowhere near the condition there were in when they left the store, software and hardware has been changed, devices added, devices taken away. Most PCs have NOT had a clean install of WindowsXP - and by clean I am referring to the retail edition of XP, not the preinstalled version that most manufacturers choose to include which may have multiple additions of their own software on it. I do not have a printer laboratory running each and every make and model of printer in my house! We aim to try to assist as many folks as possible. We cannot solve all the problems in the world!
