very slow spooling from Office/2002 products to HP6122
The HP driver on the win98 machine is current (7.1.0.0).
Here are other things I have tried: 1) On the win98 machine (server), I removed and reinstalled the printer. No change. 2) On the win98 machine, I switched the spool type from EMF to RAW (and eventually back again). No change. 3) On the XP machine (remote client), I removed and reinstalled the network printer, thinking it might pull an updated version from the server. No change. 4) On the XP machine, I directly updated the driver to 7.1.0. No change. 5) On the XP machine, I disabled bi-directional support (since the printer is connected via USB this is probably meaningless, but why was it checked by default?) No change. To recap, -the slow spooling only occurs for Office 2002 apps running on the XP machine and printing remotely to this specific printer. -Remote printing from other apps (e.g. Acrobat) running on the XP machine works fine. -Remote printing from Office 2002 apps running on the XP machine to an HP 6L on the Win98SE machine works fine. -Local printing from Office 2000 apps running on the win98SE machine itself works fine. ANY help would be greatly appreciated! -----Original Message----- I originally posted the problem described below in the Office/2002 printing and fonts newsgroup on 5/24 but got no response. Hope I have better luck here! Thanks, Jeff --------------------- I just watched a 15-page word document take 31 minutes to spool to an HP6122 printer (w/o duplexing enabled for this document). All Office 2002 products exhibit slow spooling to this printer (such as 8 minutes for a 35K excel worksheet with 3 tabs). Other applications, such as Acrobat, spool similarly sized documents to this printer in a few seconds, and the Office 2002 apps will spool similarly sized documents to a different printer (an HP6L, on the same win98 machine) in a few seconds. I am printing from a Dell Latitide running XP Pro SP1, over a 100mbps network. My copy of Office 2002 is also at SP1. The printers are both attached to USB ports on a Dell Dimension 866mhz running Win98SE. Note that Office 2000 apps installed on the Win98SE machine (where the printers are connected) spool normally. Clearly, the only combination that exhibits the problem is remote spooling from Office 2002 apps to the HP6122. Needless to say, "spool" is enabled in the printer properties, and "start printing immediately" is also enabled (and doesn't affect other apps). What is curious is that on the Sharing tab, it reports that "Windows has disabled remote access for this computer..." as if the printer were directly connected to the laptop, not the Dimension. I've found nothing on the HP site that suggests a solution. Has anyone here encountered this problem? Thanks, Jeff . |
