Internet Options settings change by themselves
I just moved up to DSL. The ISP gives you 20 hours of
dialup as a back up, or to use away from home, so I kept the dialup connection on the computer. Now, for no apparent reason, the computer keeps trying to dial the old-fashioned modem even though I have a good DSL alway-on connection, and I keep having to click Cancel to stop it. I have gone to Internet Options/Connections multiple times, clicked on "Never dial a connection," and then either "OK" or "Apply." Somehow it keeps changing back to "Dial whenever a connection is not present." Ideas? |

Sounds like Spyware Pete. Download Spybot and do a thorough check.

Yeah; I'd been living with some stuff that SpyBot called
spyware but AdAware didn't. Didn't seem to cause trouble while I just had dial-up. Took out Wild Tangent (killing a game the nieces and nephews like) and problem seems to be solved. (Before, I just used ZoneAlarm to keep Wild Tangent from phoning home; the game till worked. What a joke.) Thanks and regards. -----Original Message----- Sounds like Spyware Pete.
