XP has no native DVD-writing capability, so you have never been able to do that without the help of some third-party application. And now you say it's CDs that won't work. I have been using Windows XP built in cd/dvd writing capabilities. I have no other software installed that will be able to enable me to write cds/dvds. Its just these cds that are not working so I guess it is because they are not compatible with my DVD writer. It has nothing to do with being incompatible. As several people have told you, including in the message you're replying to, XP has built-in CD-writing capability, but *not* built-in DVD writing capability. If you've successfully done this before, almost certainly you did it with CDs, and not with DVDs. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup Many times I have succesfully created data DVDs just by using windows xps facility that u can also use for cds. I am sorry if I am not being clear or something. OK so why when I put a DVD+R into my DVD+RW Drive it comes up with how much space is on the DVD and when I do the same with my DVD+RW DVD is shows 0 for space? |

To write to DVD+RW both your software {I believe Nero does} and your DVD drive must support the DVD+ format. Newer computer DVD drives support writing to both DVD- and DVD+ format. However, older drives support only the DVD- format. Don Hi Don, as I have read in my manual my DVD does support DVD+RW DVDs. Below is the specs of my DVD drive. My cdrw will not even acknowledge some cheap discs. problem is you've spent good money on them and the shop won't necessarily take them back. Have you formatted the DVD disc? All RW discs must be formatted before you
can write to them. Dave "Lee" wrote in message ... Hi, I just bought 15x Blank DVD+RW from Tesco, they are MR.DVDs that they have just started selling. "Lee" wrote in message news Hi again, how do you format a DVD+RW Disc? I've never come across this process before! {SNIP} Because you only need to format if your are using UDF {packet writing} format software. I am not even sure that DVD supports UDF format. In any case, unless you are using such you do not need to format. WRT an other post of mine, I only mentioned drive compatibility for DVD+ since it was not mentioned in any of the post I read. Don |

Install the InCD software that comes with Nero. Using My Computer window,
right click the drive that contains the blank DVD disc and select Format. After the disc is formatted, it should show up with 4.7 Gb available space. You can then drag folders from your hard drive to the DVD using Windows Explorer. Dave "Lee" wrote in message ... No ive not formatted the DVD disc! This is 1st Ive heard of it. "David S. Heindel" wrote in message k.net... | Have you formatted the DVD disc? All RW discs must be formatted before you | can write to them. | Dave Absolutely incorrect. It's only necessary to format RWs if you want to use packet-writing. Otherwise DVD-/+RWs may be used just as DVD-/+Rs are used, with the exception being that they may be erased and used again. |

Unable to write to blank DVD+RW
Hi - just to let you know that I am also having the same problem and it's
nothing to do with the discs. I, like you, used to be able to drag and drop files onto DVDs (using the preinstalled sonic/roxio software and the Windows wizard) but Windows/my Computer no longer sees the blank DVDs - I also get 0 free space and 0 total size. Even after formatting, the DVDs are no longer recognised, so I cannot write to them using any third party software. The reason you are being asked about third part software is that there is some pre-installed, but it looks like Windows as it comes up with a Windows wizard. I have just tried to use send to for a file and I get an error message, saying that "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file. What do you want Windows to do?" This is also making me fed up as it used to work very easily.....
