AT&T DSL vs. Comcast Cable
I am currently using AT&T dial-up, so everyone out their probably can
understand my desire for high-speed. I have been trying to decide on what high-speed to go with. Both AT&T DSL and Comcast Cable have the potential for 3 Mbps download for the package I am looking at. The cable option has upload potential of 256 vs. DSL 384 kbps. I live in an apartment on a street full of apartments. Does anyone currently use either of the above providers and can shed some light on if one choice is better than the other? Good and bad stories for either would be very much appreciated? The old argument of DSL vs. Cable is also welcomed. Thanks for taking the time to share! |

Cable is usually faster at times but not so much these days as DSL is offering higher speeds. Keep in mind that cable is nice at times but it is a shared connection so the more people who have cable access in your area, the slower the conncection gets at times. Where as DSL is dedicated speed and not shared with anyone. |

Cable is faster.
I have DSL, but Cable is faster. The price of DSL in my area is cheaper than Cable. So this is why I have DSL. I know people whose DSL is faster than mine. The area, and phone lines and a lot of other factors can determine speed. I don't know anyone with Cable that is slower than DSL. It might be out there, but not at the lower costs. Is the upload speed really that important??? Are you going to be uploading tons of files??? Or will you be surfing and downloading??? Compare the download speeds. [and the costs] DSL still does share, AND........if you are doing home networking through a router, you will still actually share bandwith with the other computers. I used QWEST DSL for about a year until they sold out to MSN. It was very good compared to dial up. I then switched to Cableone's cable connection. It was much better than QWEST's DSL. Faster. Horizon cable service is also very good. Rick |

AT&T DSL vs. Comcast Cable
All,
DSL shares only if it's going through a Remote Terminal as all who are connected to the Remote Terminal a.k.a. DSLAM. All users on the DSLAM have to share the bandwidth being connected to the DSLAM from the Telephone Central Office. Otherwise it is a direct line from the Telephone Central Office which would not share. Nospam "stonekeyboards" wrote in message ... Cable is faster. I have DSL, but Cable is faster. Get Comcast. I get 380 - 400kbps all the time.
DSL may be cheaper but dealing with AT&T or Verizon - one word to describe - "sucks" "Mark Williams" wrote in message news I am currently using AT&T dial-up, so everyone out their probably can understand my desire for high-speed.
