Install on Previous Computer
I just bought a new CPU, with XP Pack2 installed. My other computer
had ME on it. One day I couldn't boot it. I took it in for repair and was told the registry is all messed up. I intended to get a new computer anyway. What I want to know is how, if possible, can I get the older one to boot up? I don't really care about the programs etc. since I have all that on the new one and can easily reinstall them. If I can boot and keep what is on the old one, great. Then of course I will have to ask how to do the installation of ME again and what else is necessary. Thank you. |

Assuming the repair people knew what they were talking about; a registry
repair could have been attempted by booting using the DOS boot floppy and then running scanreg/ restore or scanreg /repair. Did they even try? As indicated above you could still boot using a floppy or go into Safe Mode. Did the repair folks try either? wrote in message ... I just bought a new CPU, with XP Pack2 installed. If you are talking about reviving the computer with ME on it, you might want
to post to microsoft.public.windowsme.general or microsoft.public.windowsme.setup for assistance. Windows ME has its own set of gotchas to watch out for and those folks have seen it all. Both are very active groups. -- Colin Barnhorst [MVP Windows - Virtual Machine] (Reply to the group only unless otherwise requested) wrote in message ...
