mrsbear had this to say: My reply is at the bottom of your sent message: Hi, I am new to Windows XP and would like to know how I can hide the recycle bin on the desktop? Thanks for any help. mrsbear It's not too too hard to do so long as you're comfortable editing the registry, try this site for the directions: Delete the Recycle Bin Icon from the Desktop in XP/2003: http://www.petri.co.il/delete_recycl..._xp_200 3.htm Galen -- Signature changed for a moment of silence. Rest well Alex and we'll see you on the other side. |

Thanks for any help. mrsbear * Hi I got these (I think from either Doug Knox or Kelly's Korner, can't remember which)& used one to hide the recycle bin on a standalone XP system at work to prevent operators messing around. Cut & paste the text into notepad, save as hidebin.reg then double click to install. REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\ClassicStartMe nu] "{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel] "{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}"=dword:00000001 Cut & paste into notepad & save as showbin.reg then double click to install. Hi 'CReWdog',
I have, today, succesfully installed 'Hidebin.reg' and 'Binopt.reg' Would you know if these files can be delete? (I can't imagine that Registry would call these files when the user whish to show or hide the recycle bin, as the files' content have been added to the Registry.) I found information on 'Hidebin.reg' and 'Binopt.reg' at: 'Customizing Your PC with the Windows XP Registry' http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...t_02september= 16.mspx Thanks and Regards, Thomas Jedenfelt Tyres=F6 (Stockholm), Sweden |
