Default windows explorer

Just migrated from W 98 to W XP (well, sort-of - I have dual boot).

Two questions, both about behavior in Windows Explorer.

1. When I click on the shortcut for Windows Explorer, it opens up in "My
Documents". Is there a way I can have it open on "My Computer" (not just
once, but every time)?
99 times out of 100 I want to go to some file on one of the drives.

2. When I click on any drive or folder in the left-hand column, the files and
folders in the right-hand column come up as "Tiles".
I prefer to view them as "Details".
I know I can change that (for the current view only?) under "View", but I would
like to find out if there's a setting I can change so that the "Details" view
is the default for all folders I open.

As far as I am concernned, I would like to permanently remove the "My Documents"
folder, with its sub-folders "My eBooks", "My Music", "My Pictures" and "My
Received Files".
In fact, as a personal observation, I believe that all this "My This and My That
Stuff" hype is a way to make me want to "own" certain programs or sites, and I
can well decide for myself what I ant, in that case.

Thanks for listening to my editorializing a bit, and for answering questions 1
and 2.

Cheers!

John

A.#1: Right click on Wi8ndows Explorer and select 'Properties'. In the
'Target' box change it to
"%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, c:\" (without the quotes). This will make
Explorer open to your 'C' drive.
A#2: Change to 'Details' just like you have been but then also go to Tools
| Folder Options | hit the View tab and then the 'Apply to All Folders'
button. The change won't show up until a close and re-open or possibly a
reboot.
