Have you installed any DVD codec, e.g. Power DVD, InterVedio, Nero Show Time
etc.?

Default DVD Drive.

What is the brand and model of your DVD R/W drive?
It seemed that it does not support DVD-R disk but it is a very rare case as
most of the present DVD R/W drives support multi format of various DVD disks.
Try update the firmware of your DVD R/W drive.

Default DVD Drive.

I am Having the same problem's . I have a leadtek PVR 2000, and a Plextore
760 A DVD Burner . And sometimes it will burn in DL and sometimes it will
not.
I am running

windows XP Home SP 2
1 Plextor DVD-RW 760-A
1 PLEXTOR CDRW
2- 512 CRUCIAL MEMORY
ASUS A8N-SLI MOTHERBOARD
4-WD'S 80 GIG 0-1 RAID CONFIG.
1 LEADTEK PVR 2000
2 MSI NX6600 GT'S
1-AMD 2.2 GIG SLOT 939

Sometimes it will burn sometimes it wont.
Sometimes it will finalize, sometimes it wont. sometimes leadtek works good
and burns direct to plextor sometimes it wont, sometimes easy media creator
8 will work sometimes it wont.

Did the bios thing from plextor, also dumped driver's for plextor, and
motherboard, reinstalled emc8, same with pvr2000. And I am using the correct
media, also switched burning speed's.

I am baffled , also have plenty of room on hard drives to burn movies, and
plenty of memory.

I have two Plextor DVD DRIVES both with the same problems. I have updated
Bios for both 2 date.

1= PX760A
2=PX740A

10X DVD+R DL
6X DVD-R DL
18X DVD±R
8X DVD+RW
6X DVD-RW
16X DVD-ROM
48X CD-R
24X CD-RW
48X CD-ROM

I am using the required media for both. I am also using media creator 8 for
the burning which is recomended for the 760 A. When I use the DL Disk and I
go to start ,My computer, Select properties for the DVD drive I am using for
recording( 760 A ) and select recording tab on the right click. And select
the checkbox for recording on this drive. select apply and close out. I
notice under my computer that the drive changes from , D to E. The nvidia
drivers has an IDE Driver imbedded in the setup drivers program and I am not
using them. Just the generic drivers for windows. When I put a 8.5 gig Disk
in the drive . The drive changes to CDRW DRIVE INSTEAD DVD-RW. I am lost.
