Default Pioneer DVR-A04 doesn't play DVD's anymore

Group;

I'm having problems playing any DVD's on my computer.
I also have problems reading certain DVD-RW, DVD-R and CD's that have data
files on them.
The computer just doesn't recognize that a disk is in the drive.
It's been a while since I played a DVD on my computer; but it use to work
just fine before.
This probably happened sometime after upgrading to Win XP; but I'm not sure.
I can play most of my music CD's, some programs and some data CD's.

In anycase I need to try to get this fixed and I think I need some updated
firmware, device driver or software.
I tried searching on TDK's web site and couldn't find any driver support
section.
I also use a Realmagic Hollywood Plus DVD/MPEG-2 playback card that might be
causing the problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First thing to try is a laser lens cleaner disc.

Thanks for the suggestion; but that didn't fix my problem.

When I put the DVD in my player, my cursor shows a blinking CD; but after a
while it disappears.
That is telling me that the drive sees the disk; but can't read it or decode
it.
I just recently updated the MPEG playback card and that didn't fix the
problem.

I also have another computer that has a TDK DED+440 external USB drive with
the same problem.
