number of connections
Group,
I have xp home as a file server with 4 workstations connected. When I try to connect #5, it says I already have reached the maximum number of connections. I do have an HP printer with built-in printserver on the network. Could that be the problem? Thanks, Wade |

Yes. That would be your 5th allowed connection.

Either upgrade your pseudo-server to XP Pro or an MS Server OS such as SBS 2003 OR if you are only using it for a file server (and not running Windows programs from it) you can install a Linux distro on it instead. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314882 - Inbound connections limit in XP 5 for XP Home 10 for XP Pro/Tablet/MCE 49 for SBS 2000 74 for SBS 2003 Unlimited for full Server O/Ses Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!"
