Unless you have a program such as Easy CD Creator or Nero, you are out of
luck. WinXP cannot burn to a DVD device of any kind.

Yup, I agree with you, and Jim.. Without a burning app it won't crank on all
8's or 6's or 4's or even a 2 stroke for that matter, ha...

That is the kind of program that I meant...
I am not certain what the significance of "no rewriteable drive" is as a
DVD-RAM isn't rewriteble (AFIK).
My inclination is that you have a hardware issue with the drive. Don't
mention that XP says that the drive is working properly. All that means is
that the electronics in the drive and in the computer can communicate. The
drive hardware may still be bad even after receiving such a message.
What does the manufacturer's diagsnostics say about the drive?

Crunk,

You might just try unistalling the Windvd Creator app. then reinstall it
again..
Might even try contacting their customer support..
http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Support.jsp?mode=Customer

Might try uninstalling the drive in device manager, reboot and let XP find
it again..
Investigate these links they may be relevant..
