Default svchost.exe - Application Error

My notebook computer has been installed with XP SP2 and keep on getting the
error message of svchost.exe - Application Error The instruction at
"0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be
"written". Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to bebug
the program either at the start of computer or in the midst of program
running.

Moreover, I cannot shut down the computer after pressing the normal
start-turn off computer. I note that the computer underwent all steps of
closing down but the screen saver remains on at the end of the day, until I
manually turn it off.

Can anyone kindly advise me what has been wrong and how I can eliminate /
debug? Many thanks in advance and sorry for all the trouble!
