New motherboard and old hd?

Is it possible that when your motherboard 'blew out' it took other
components with it? You might have a larger hardware problem than you
think. Hopefully not.

Also, OEM installations are typically BIOS-locked to the original
motherboard. Did you check with the OEM to find out if your copy of
Windows will work with a different make and model of motherboard?

To Charles, both of Leonard Gray's comments below are appropriate, but
assuming you have no other hardware problems and assuming that your copy is
not BIOS-locked, try a repair installation (see "How to Perform a Windows XP
Repair Install" http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm). That
usually works, but occcasionally it's not good enough and you have to do a
clean installation.

Even if it were under 120 days, you could activate by voice call to an 800
number, and that's quick and easy.

A clarification, though. That means they can't do upgrade installations. It
does *not* mean they can't do repair installations.
