shared folder from terminated account
Hi
A folder was created by one of the account users on my computer. That user's account now seems to have been deleted. Howerver, the folder remains viewable in all other user's accounts. From other accounts, when I click on My Computer, I can access the folder. When I right click on it and select Sharing and Security, the Make this folder private box is greyed. I want to make that folder unseen by other accounts. Any suggestions? |

shared folder from terminated account
Hi
Thanks. When I try starting windows xp home edition in safe mode, and click on the folder in question, only two tabs are shown. General and Customize. The Sharing tab that I see while not in safe mode does not appear. The sharing tab is the one that has the greyed box. Any suggestions for handling this situation? Check on the following.
Open My Computer. Right click on the drive where the folder in question is located. Select Properties from the menu that drops down. On the General tab of the drive's Properties sheet, note what's entered next to File system. If it says FAT32, that would account for your not seeing the Security tab. The ability to make a folder private is only available on a drive which is formatted NTFS. It's possible to convert a FAT32 drive to NTFS, but it's not a procedure without some risk. Any important files and folders should be backed up prior to the conversion. Take a look at this article for more info. CONVERTING FAT32 to NTFS http://aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.php Should you decide to convert the drive to NTFS, I suggest you move the folder in question into your My Documents folder prior to the conversion. Since you're running Windows XP Home Edition, a folder must reside within your user profile for you to be able to make it private. Take a look here for more info. You Cannot Select the "Make This Folder Private" Option http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q307286/ Note: Before you decide to convert the drive to NTFS, you might want to find out why it was formatted FAT32 initially. The vast majority of XP installations reside on a drive which was formatted NTFS right from the start. There may be a reason why yours is FAT32. Good luck Nepatsfan In , Visitor wrote: Hi Thanks.
