Default Format and Fresh install

Hi everyone

I just bought a second hand laptop, and would like to format the hard drive
and install a fresh copy of windows XP prof. How do i do this? I tried just
inserting the windows cd and doing a fresh install, however it would not
install on to the hard drive because "the selected partition contains another
operating system" (old windows)
Any ideas?

When it gets tot he point where it asks you which partition to install
on.....

DELETE the partition, create a NEW partition.. COntinue with install.

Keep your eyes open during the install initial screens; there is
a point where it will let you tell it to ignore everything and
install to C. Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly where it
is. That's also the reason a lot of people end up installing on
D instead of C: they missed the point where it was controllable.
