I got the platform update too & it repeatedly crashed IE9 & also screwed
up firefox & chrome, though I did eventually get chrome to working
again. So I uninstalled the platform update & IE9 was back to working
find.

Now I'm going to reinstall the update & then follow it with IE10 & see
what happens.

No problems here. How was FF and Chrome screwed? Did you dis-activate
your anti virus and any other real time anti malware apps before
proceeding to install the update?

They both had the same problem as IE9 initally, kept recycling the home
page & I couldn't stop it except by shutting it down. After shutting
down chrome a couple of times, it started acting normally. Yes, I had
antivirus turned off. Second time around I even disabled all of my
browser add-ins but that had no effect on the glitch.

Just finished reinstalling the platform update & after restarting, I
immediately installed IE10 (I had previously downloaded it). Installed
with no problems. IE10 is working great & seems to be quite a bit
faster than IE9.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. I'm in no hurry so I'll wait until
it comes down through Windows Updates.

I installed the platform update on my Win7HP SP1 64bit pc through windows
update and had no problems. Both IE9 and FF 19.0 are working fine.
I will wait until Windows Update has the IE 10 before I install it.
I left MSE running and everything worked just fine.

Here FF was screwed. The fonts it showed went to Times New Roman after
IE10 was installed. I could tackle this problem with setting the default
font to Calibri. But FF still not shows the fonts of the website but the
default font.

Can M$ ever get something right?

I got both via Windows Update today. No problems at all. I would not
expect to have to turn virus checking off to receive a Windows Update.
Unless M$ *Really* screwed up, that would mean the virus checker was
finding false positives, wouldn't it?

The problem is that it's reading while the installation is occurring.
False or true positives are not the issue. Usually, you will have no
problems but there is a chance you will so why take the chance? Why do
you think AV programs have the option to dis-activate them?

Last week Chrome was installed by mistake (I must have forgotten to
untick a box) and it screwed up IE9. I had to do a system restore to
resolve the problem. I gave them feedback that was less than polite.

I downloaded the manual installation file and ran that on Win 7 64
bit. Sorked perfectly and didn't harm Firefox in any way (I don't have

This link was posted earlier in this thread:
Platform Update for W7 SP1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838/en-us

It gives an explanation of the platform update. Supposedly it's
required to go to IE10.

FWIW, Firefox is still not working properly for me after installing the
platform update & IE10. I'm running 32bit Win7. Firefox will only
start in safe mode, so the platform update may have done something to a
plug-in, probably one of the Adobe products :)

Think about it. What is the difference between a system update and a
system infection? None, except one is desired and one is not. Virus
software looking for a pattern can't tell the difference.
