They are Norton files; it probably means you should uninstall Norton, then
reinstall it; or visit Symantec.com for advice "AIBBANKS" wrote in message ... I get 3 error messages befor I can get into my account. They are ccAPP.EXE PIFSvc.exe and osCheck.exe. Application error at start up and Norton launch
I started getting the same 3 messages on May 17th, after doing a Microsoft
Update and a Norton AntiVirus 2007 LiveUpDate. I have followed instructions from the Symantec site to download a removal tool and download a new version of that pgm. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a half dozen times. So far, I still receive the same errors as you are getting. The AutoProtect works for administrator fine. The restricted account give the error msg. I found that you can right click the icon, on the desktop, of the restricted account that represents Norton and "run as" the administrator. That works "OK". I have talked to Microsoft Support--they blame Norton. I have talked to Symantec Support --they blame Microsoft. It felt good to find someone that has the same problem--I thought I was the only one receiving these errors. Hope we find the answer soon! Ctrl+Alt+Del will shut your PC down, or terminate the process.
I finally stopped using Norton some time ago, following numerous problems "AIBBANKS" wrote in message ... I terminated the process and then used the removal tool.Appeared to be
working but the re-installation was a nightmare.I have been at it hours and after reinstallation the same problem. But one of the accounts is working perfectly. I still have ten months on this subscription and this is why I have persevered. What would be another option for security. Are these error messages going to intefere with the computer. I use F-Secure on 2 and AVG together with ZoneAlarm both free on another 3.
Never had a problem. My NIS had some 9 or so months when I dumped it (and I'd used Norton through some 5 versions) They probably wont interfere, but likely means Norton is not working correctly, if at all, on the problem accounts "AIBBANKS" wrote in message ... I changed permissions on two files - msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll and it
worked! I found the information on Microsoft News Groups. I copied it as follows: Run "cmd" pess enter cd windows\system32 press Enter cacls msvc*.71 press Enter You should get a list of file access permissions for at least two files - msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll. Have a good look and check whether this includes "BUILTIN\Users:R" for the above files. If it does NOT list a permission BUILTIN\Users:R Then cacls msvcp71.dll /E /G BUILTIN\Users:R Do not miss out the spaces You should get a "... processed" message on screen. Repeat the command to verify this cacls msvcp71.dll If it shows the correct permissions, do the same for the file msvcr71.dll.
