Default Alternative to Bluetooth dongle

I use Linux Ubuntu.

I have tried for months to get a Bluetooth dongle (tried 4 kinds) to send sound to my Altec Landsing wireless headphones with no luck.

Is there any other way to accomplish my task?

Thanks.

I can promise you one thing.

If you "did it with a SmartPhone", it would "just work".

Even Windows 10 does not have a full implementation of
Bluetooth in it. I was unable to set up a Piconet between
two Win10 machines (for fun). I managed to squeeze two packets
through it, before it died.

Linux has a decent stack, and at some point, I was using
a certain debugging tool, but I forget all the details.
And the thing was, the BlueZ stack was there all right,
but there was mention they might remove the utilities thing
I was using, from package manager. And I haven't been back
since, to test anything.

(See "deprecated tool" in the table here, for more details.
Arch gives excellent technical articles, even if you're
on Ubuntu and need to translate what you see a bit...)

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/bluetooth

When you spend $20 on a Bluetooth device,
you get $100 worth of aggravation.

Quite a good deal, don't you see ?
A 5x return on your money.
Not even the bank does that.

If you have a SmartPhone and test with that,
you'll feel positively heroic when it works.

Paul (who wants to track down the inventor of Bluetooth and... you know)

Wrong newsgroup; this is a Win XP group.

Here's an article* "How To Use Bluetooth Speakers In Ubuntu"

He was using Ub 15.04 Unity, but you didn't say which version or which
desktop environment. He was also using Inateck as opposed to Altec Lansing.

The article didn't say much except to see if your DE has Bluetooth
turned on and to let its bluetooth adapter find the corresponding device.

On this system, which is Mint Cinnamon 18.3, the bluetooth function
knows it doesn't have a bluetooth device much less a bluetooth target
device.

One way to see if your system sees the dongle is to use

lsusb

Report in a linux-oriented group which Ubuntu including which DE and
what lsusb shows.

I know this is XP group. I thought that there might be an alternative to bluetooth in sending sound to wireless headphones.

I have posted on many Ubuntu forums and no one has been able to help.

I guess BT is a hit or miss with Windows O.S.es as well.

You should just keep posting to random newsgroups until you exhaust
them all. I suggest you try a cooking newsgroup next.

Have you tried a windows computer?
If that works in addition to your android, then
you'll know where the problem lies...but you already
knew where the problem lies.

In answer to your question, it's likely that bluetooth
is the only thing that will connect wirelessly to your
bluetooth headphones.

You forgot about the

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupp...othUsbAdapters
"This page lists some of the Bluetooth USB Adapters that work on Ubuntu.
-- You may also want to consider purchasing a free software compatible
device. Unlike non-free driver dependent hardware support exists out of
the box and will continue working going forward. Many other Bluetooth
dongles will not."

That page also advises lsusb. It also refers people to the ThinkPenguin
site which sells linux compatible devices, but their USB bluetooth
dongle is pricey. I'm sure one could find a better deal than that.

I expect that one reason you haven't found help on the Ub forums so far
is because you don't know how to ask questions properly yet.

Thanks Mike.

I have bought 4 dongles, some of which claimed to work with Linux.

I have to decide if I want to spend another $14 on another dongle. :-)
