You are quite right, but the detergent manufacturer pays the washing machine
manufacturer to recommend and distribute samples of the soap. This is how
it should work in the PC industry rather than the other way around.

Johnf,

Your contempt for "another one who doesn't follow MS instructions,"
and your lack of empathy are less than admirable. Your "follow MS
instructions" sounds a lot like "follow Saddam's instructions!"
Most folks don't ask for XP help because they selected XP of their
own free will. For new PC systems, XP is shoved down everyone's
throat by the Redmond regime's stranglehold on the OEMs. A new Dell
or Gatweay machine comes with Microsoft product EULAs that provide
users with fewer rights and less protection than most terrorists
enjoy.

No, Jim, my contempt is for people who post purely destructive comments on

It must be very disconcerting for relative newbies who have just purchased
XP, coming to the NG seeking a solution to a, probably minor, problem &
reading something like that. It sure would give me second thoughts as to
whether I'd done the right thing.
And AFAIK, Dell & Gateway (also HP) modify the basic XP program towards
their own means - look what happened to HP OS's when SP1 was first

released.
To me, that can't be hung on MS.

Absolute BS, when was it in recent history acceptable for a computer
manufacturer to offer anything but the latest and most widely compatible

OS

BS
One month after XP was released, not one company had the option to buy
Win98.
If they did it was an older or refurbished machine.

purchase a system with Linux

That doesn't make any sense.
When a user put their trust in MS for so many years,
you say go Linux.
That proves that MS doesn't care about their customers
whether they are satisfied or not.

Absolute BS, when was it in recent history acceptable for a computer
manufacturer to offer anything but the latest and most widely compatible

OS
as their main product? If anyone is so aggrieved with purchasing a

computer
with XP installed, they only have to go as far as their nearest Wall to
purchase a system with Linux installed or purchase a custom system from a
local vendor or build it themselves. The OEM's are in business to make a
profit and they will supply the product that will give the least volume of
support for the software they expect will be used on the supplied OS.

Hi,

I've been told that XP Home is based on Windows ME (and as such is not
very good), whereas XP Pro is based on Windows NT and is much better
in terms of stability etc.

However, I was under the impression that XP Home was just a cut down
version of XP Pro with less features. I also assumed that it was a bit
of an attempt by Microsoft to position each prodcut in the market.

Anybody got any comments on this?

Just to see why people are having problems installing program,
and to see the weirdo operating system.
Fancy icons don't impress me, 70% of the population
suffer poor vision, add novice to it, then good luck.
Yes pro you and pro Gates should have no problem,
but you saying screw every body else.
70% of the people don't know how to configure a simple
VCR.
Those high tech gadgets might be fun for people that
have nothing else to do. And surely are not for the
busy business man and busy people.
Yes, people continue to buy computers, but after
buying them, they become an unusable fixture
in the house for many.
