Default trying to install xp-not reading cd

Hi-

I am putting xp on a formatted , partiioned drive, but can't get it to
recognize the cd. It's been so long since I had to do this, I don't
remember how. Do I need a 98 bootdisk? I went into cmos and designated
the cd drive as the bootdisk, still stuck.

Help please.

thanx

OK, first off you wouldn't use 98 boot disks for an XP
install, you use the XP setup disks, just find em on this
microsoft site or lots of other places on the internet,
these will load all your initial drivers and all to use
the cd to load windows, will make life alot easier.

As you power on hit the hotkey to enter BIOS setup (see the manual, or
try DEL; F2; F10 which are common ones). There either a Boot page,
where select the CD drive and use the number pad + key to push it to the
top; or a BIOS settings page and use PageDn to cycle the Boot order
value round to CD first. ESC to exit and exit saving settings to boot
the XP CD direct. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement take New
Install. When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select and delete
the current partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted at the next
stage. I would not leave it to whatever formatting may have been done
already
