Default reassigning IRQs

i've been having problems with my new soundcard, m-audio
revolution 5.1, and the m-audio tech support said that i
should try to get the sound card on its own IRQ.
currently, it shares IRQ 9 with a number of other devices
as seen below:

IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2
Keyboard OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 9 RADEON 8500 SERIES OK
IRQ 9 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
OK
IRQ 9 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
OK
IRQ 9 SMC EZ Card 10/100 PCI (SMC1211 Series) OK
IRQ 9 Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM) OK
IRQ 9 M-Audio Revolution OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK

i've tried swapping slots and even manually assigning IRQs
in the BIOS with no luck. currently, the card is on PCI
slot 4. anyone have ANY ideas on how to get my sound card
and possibly my video card on their own IRQs?

ps. i'm well aware that i have 2 sound cards and the
problems remain even when i take the 2nd one out...

thanks in advance for any replies...

What problems are you having? The advice to change IRQ's is almost always
wrong. IRQ sharing is rarely a problem today and is usually given by
support techs when out of ideas. Did you uninstall the driver for your
other card?

Some soundcards, on some motherboards, will not work in the PCI slot next to
the AGP slot, or in a PCI slot next to some NICs.

Try this:
Go to Device Manager, uninstall the soundcard, shut your computer down,
and move the soundcard to another slot.

Only the Standard HAL permits the manual resources assigning.
Did you install VIA 4in1 drivers? Is the BIOS update available?

i'm having problems with noise coming out of my speakers
whenever the CD drives are spinning... aand noise coming
out of the soundcard in general.

i tried uninstalling the other card, drivers and all, but
it didn't fix it. so i just reinstalled it cause i need 2
sound cards for some audio apps i run.

thanks for your reply.

That noise remark sounds interesting. Find another box with XP and any sound
card and test that M_Audio there.
