XP Home won't save user and password to access file server
I too have that problem, except XP wil remember the first two passwords (for the first to drives I map) but then logs me as guest on all other drives and of course won't remember passwords from guest users. My XP machine connects with some thirty Win98 Machines. Of those, about 10 share some 15 Hard-Drives which are password protected. Here's the problem: After entering and asking XP to remember the password for the second drive I connect to, it connects me as guest to all other drives and therefore will not remember the passwords I enter. I tried many times, changing drive order to enter passwords and every time it's only the first two drives I connected to that XP remembers. When I had Win98, this problem didn't exist, I could log onto 10 drives or more and map them afterwards. And on the next boot up, it would reconnect automatically. But with XP, when I reboot, using the same user, XP tells me that it could not reconnect to all my network drives. Because it simply does not remember the passwords I used previously. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Daniel Charette "divemarkus" wrote in news:27b201c2b7ce $3a3234b0$8df82ecf@TK2MSFTNGXA02: I am having the same problem with my friend's XP Home PC. Seems like it cannot retain the mapped drive even when you check the reconnect at logon box. Let me know if this has any work-around. -----Original Message----- I have a small LAN with one NT server and 30 PC's. I just purchased two PC's with XP Home. When I want to access files from the server, I have to log on with a user name and password. But every time I reboot the PC, I have to again enter my user name password. I did not have this problem with XP Professional. On win 98, it asks you the first time you log on if you want to save your name and password, but with XP Home, you don't have this option. Where is the switch? . |
