If you are going to install WinXP again after formatting your hard drive,
you can just use the WinXP setup CD itself. Just boot from this CD and it
has options to format and clean-install XP.

If you want to reinstall XP, boot your computer from the XP CD. During
setup, you'll be offered the opportunity to format your drive.

If you don't want to reinstall XP, boot with a Windows 98/Me Startup disk.

If your hard disk is formatted NTFS, at the A: prompt, type FDISK Then
choose Y to enable large hard disk support. You'll be prompted as to
whether or not to treat NTFS partitions as large, answer Yes.

Next choose Delete partition or Logical DOS drive. Next choose Delete
Non-DOS partition. Choose the partition you wish to delete. Then use
FDISK to create a new partition to replace it. The new partition will be
FAT32. Once done in FDISK, reboot the computer with the Startup disk and
enter FORMAT C: to format the drive.

If you have a FAT32 drive, just boot with the Win98/Me startup disk and at
the A: prompt, type FORMAT C:

This is generally a simple process of using a windows setup cd and booting
off of it.
Launch setup and when asked, select format C:. Setup will then continue to
install onto the newley formatted drive.
