does XP Pro have a "Scandisk"? all I can find in
Accessories/system tools is "diskdefrag"

In My computer right click and view the properties of your hard disk, select
the tools tab and then click check now under error checking.

The XP equivalent is called "chkdsk."

Talk about a throw back, chkdsk is a OLD DOS function, but whatever works.

No, it's not a throwback at all. Chkdsk is the name that's always
been used in Windows NT versions, not just in DOS. Besides, it's
just a matter of what name is used for the function.
