HELP -- Too many programs

1. I have way too many programs starting up when the pc
is turned on ... many of them I don;t need right away

they slow down the CPU process to 100%. I have to try
to
get Task Manager to come up which takes forever, and
take
them out of the list there one at a time to free up the
CPU from 100%. How can I get them NOT to load when the
pc starts up, but to have a shortcut on the desktop and
pick them when I need them, and then off when I'm
through?

2. I have a Yahoo companion on my tool bar at the top,
but there are 2 of them, and I need to know how to
delete
just one of them. The help info from Yahoo that I have
researched does not address that problem.
