How is your harddrive on available space?

Have you made any virtual memory changes? (50% over RAM for minimum and
300% for maximum)

Have you tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE Channel, the restarting?
Right click My Computer\Manage\Device Manager\right click ID Channel,
Uninstall

The IDE Digital cable, is it an 80 strand?

What UDMA mode is it running on... five, six?

Sorry but this is all I can think of... the problem seems very uncommon
and since it affects both drives on the same function, I can't help but
suspect it is related to power wiring or supply or bad digital wiring.. a
bad IDE digital cable would affect both drives on the same functions, low
power would also come up short when it came to burning, so you may have to
open the box as last hope.

Update

Error correction (PJG's post) wasn't checked so tried that, but to no
avail.
Tried kelly's Korner link...No joy.
I've been juggling "Enable CD Recording on this drive" on both drives
just
to make sure one wasn't faulty.
Flashed Bios.
Updated Nvidia chipset.
Uninstalled both optical drives and let windows load em back.
Uninstalled I-tunes Ver 8 (Trying anything)
Changed from DMA to PIO and back.
Made sure IMAPI (or was it ATAPI?) runs automatically in services.
Googled intensly and found others with same issue different drives and
systems but no real fix.
Insatalled logitechs ASPI layer ( early Version, as stated "More stable")
and checked with ASPI checker.
Changed WMP from 9 to 11.
Removed KB929399 (read somewhere gave probs) no joy re- installed fix.

Don't really want to get into opening up and checking cables & power
supplies if possible due to unlikely
event of both drives failing simultaneously.
I can burn/read dvd data on both drives, read on both CD drives but not
burn CD data.
But still none the wiser.

I don't know what else I can try...Anything I've missed?

I went to burn a cdr for audio cd using wmp9 and got an error message;

"Windows Media Player cannot burn the files to the CD. Verify that the
disc is clean and not damaged. If necessary, select a slower recording
speed or try a different brand of blank discs."

So I complied with that but to no avail. So i tried burning an audio
cd
within i-tunes, and that failed aswell as Nero. I tried my CD/R discs
on
another PC without a problem so next I installed WMP 11, but still the
same. Then after more googling I installed aspi files and checked with
an
aspi checker and they were installed properly and no probs were
reported,
I also loaded the latest firmware for the 2 optical drives but still
the
same issue.

Now my heads totally batterd and I can't seem to find an answer. I
can't
see it being an issue with the cdr's or the media programs so that
just
leaves me believing something on my system is corrupted, or settings
may
be wrong somewhere.

Please somebody put me out of my misery. also I changed dma to pio
then
back and also tried burning at slower speeds and stopping uneeded
services.

Ultra DMA mode 4 is low for your hardware, to get the best data transfer
rate apply the registry fix described in the KB247951 article and it should
reach 6 on the primary IDE Channel... the secondary channel may not go above
mode 2 or 3 but that is normal for optical drives. The article is dated
August 2005 and doesn't have the updated information, it says to create a
REG_DWORD value named "EnableUDMA66" but you should probably name it
"EnableUDMA133" and restart to see if it reaches transfer rate of 6, if it
doesn't, rename it "EnableUDMA100" and see if it reaches mode 5. If it is
still at mode 4, leave the value named as Enable UDMA66 or delete it.

Hi Ronaldo

I checked the specs sheet for my opt drives (LH-20A1H) and it states:;

"Supported transfer mode: PIO mode 4, DMA mode 2 and Ultra DMA
mode 4"

Also the link you provided states;

"Make sure that the device supports UDMA66 mode"

So I've left it as is untill further your advice.

Default cd burning issue

Ok, so according to your hardware information, the Primary IDE Channel is
probably capable of UDMA Transfer mode 6 and it is working at UDMA4,.. the
CD/DVD drives are capable of UDMA Transfer Mode 4 and are working at what
mode.....?

The most practical way to know some answers and see if the registry edition
is necessary, is to install Everest Home Edition... once you install it,
look under Storage\ATA... you will see two lines that say "Max. UDMA
Transfer Mode" and another that says "Active UDMA transfer mode"... if both
Max, and Active don't match, you'll need to apply the registry edition...
this is to improve the transfer rate on the Hard Drive, for the CD/DVD
drives, Everest may not provide the necessary information but the Secondary
IDE Channel is probably working at UDMA4 the same as the HD... I repeat,
this may not be the solution to the burning problem but it may help at some
level of data transfer which to my knowledge is a problem that affects
optical drives with writing problems and errors.

Default cd burning issue

Sorry I thought I'd answerd that, the cd/dvd drive's are currently
transfering in Ultra DMA mode 4.

everest report
Active UDMA Transfer Mode UDMA 6 (ATA-133)
Max. UDMA Transfer Mode UDMA 6 (ATA-133)

So I don't need to amend registry?

Ok, so according to your hardware information, the Primary IDE Channel is
probably capable of UDMA Transfer mode 6 and it is working at UDMA4,..
the

mode.....?

The most practical way to know some answers and see if the registry
edition
is necessary, is to install Everest Home Edition... once you install it,
look under Storage\ATA... you will see two lines that say "Max. UDMA
Transfer Mode" and another that says "Active UDMA transfer mode"... if
both
Max, and Active don't match, you'll need to apply the registry edition...
this is to improve the transfer rate on the Hard Drive, for the CD/DVD
drives, Everest may not provide the necessary information but the
Secondary
IDE Channel is probably working at UDMA4 the same as the HD... I repeat,
this may not be the solution to the burning problem but it may help at
some
level of data transfer which to my knowledge is a problem that affects
optical drives with writing problems and errors.

Hi Ronaldo

I checked the specs sheet for my opt drives (LH-20A1H) and it states:;

"Supported transfer mode: PIO mode 4, DMA mode 2 and Ultra DMA
mode 4"

Also the link you provided states;

"Make sure that the device supports UDMA66 mode"

So I've left it as is untill further your advice.

Ultra DMA mode 4 is low for your hardware, to get the best data transfer
rate apply the registry fix described in the KB247951 article and it
should reach 6 on the primary IDE Channel... the secondary channel may
not go above mode 2 or 3 but that is normal for optical drives. The
article is dated August 2005 and doesn't have the updated information,
it
says to create a REG_DWORD value named "EnableUDMA66" but you should
probably name it "EnableUDMA133" and restart to see if it reaches
transfer rate of 6, if it doesn't, rename it "EnableUDMA100" and see if
it reaches mode 5. If it is still at mode 4, leave the value named as
Enable UDMA66 or delete it.

How is your harddrive on available space?

Have you made any virtual memory changes? (50% over RAM for minimum
and
300% for maximum)

Have you tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE Channel, the restarting?
Right click My Computer\Manage\Device Manager\right click ID Channel,
Uninstall

The IDE Digital cable, is it an 80 strand?

What UDMA mode is it running on... five, six?

Sorry but this is all I can think of... the problem seems very
uncommon
and since it affects both drives on the same function, I can't help
but
suspect it is related to power wiring or supply or bad digital
wiring..
a
bad IDE digital cable would affect both drives on the same functions,
low
power would also come up short when it came to burning, so you may
have
to open the box as last hope.

Googled intensly and found others with same issue different drives
and
systems but no real fix.
Insatalled logitechs ASPI layer ( early Version, as stated "More
stable")
and checked with ASPI checker.
Changed WMP from 9 to 11.
Removed KB929399 (read somewhere gave probs) no joy re- installed
fix.

Don't really want to get into opening up and checking cables & power
supplies if possible due to unlikely
event of both drives failing simultaneously.
I can burn/read dvd data on both drives, read on both CD drives but
not
burn CD data.
But still none the wiser.

I don't know what else I can try...Anything I've missed?

winxp pro SP3
Loadsa ram

I went to burn a cdr for audio cd using wmp9 and got an error
message;

"Windows Media Player cannot burn the files to the CD. Verify that
the
disc is clean and not damaged. If necessary, select a slower
recording
speed or try a different brand of blank discs."

So I complied with that but to no avail. So i tried burning an
audio

within i-tunes, and that failed aswell as Nero. I tried my CD/R
discs
on
another PC without a problem so next I installed WMP 11, but still
the
same. Then after more googling I installed aspi files and checked
with
an
aspi checker and they were installed properly and no probs were
reported,
I also loaded the latest firmware for the 2 optical drives but
still
the
same issue.

Now my heads totally batterd and I can't seem to find an answer. I
can't
see it being an issue with the cdr's or the media programs so that
just
leaves me believing something on my system is corrupted, or
settings
may
be wrong somewhere.

Please somebody put me out of my misery. also I changed dma to pio
then
back and also tried burning at slower speeds and stopping uneeded
services.

Default cd burning issue

There is no question now that the problem physical and not virtual... is may
be due to faulty hardware or low quality media. Hardware could be; weak
power supply, dirty laser lens (it takes very little dust to affect it)...
or it could be a combination of the possible causes... if for example the
laser
lens was a little dusty resulting in a little lower than normal laser
intensity.. if the power supply were just a little low on power, and if the
media were of low quality, the combination of all three or just two of the
possible causes, could result in the same problem.

I also read somewhere that a more adequate firmware could improve the laser
intensity and manage to burn the same media it could not burn before, so you
may want to update the device drivers.

The question remains of why the two devices at the same time?.. the cause
could be a common one, one that affects both devices... and it would apply
to a weak power source or low quality media, and not necessarily to the
laser lens, which would be the least desired cause.

Check the comments here.

Also the link you provided states;

"Make sure that the device supports UDMA66 mode"

So I've left it as is untill further your advice.

Ultra DMA mode 4 is low for your hardware, to get the best data
transfer
rate apply the registry fix described in the KB247951 article and it
should reach 6 on the primary IDE Channel... the secondary channel may
not go above mode 2 or 3 but that is normal for optical drives. The
article is dated August 2005 and doesn't have the updated information,
it
says to create a REG_DWORD value named "EnableUDMA66" but you should
probably name it "EnableUDMA133" and restart to see if it reaches
transfer rate of 6, if it doesn't, rename it "EnableUDMA100" and see
if
it reaches mode 5. If it is still at mode 4, leave the value named as
Enable UDMA66 or delete it.

How is your harddrive on available space?

Have you made any virtual memory changes? (50% over RAM for
minimum
and
300% for maximum)

Have you tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE Channel, the
restarting?
Right click My Computer\Manage\Device Manager\right click ID
Channel,
Uninstall

The IDE Digital cable, is it an 80 strand?

What UDMA mode is it running on... five, six?

Sorry but this is all I can think of... the problem seems very
uncommon
and since it affects both drives on the same function, I can't help
but
suspect it is related to power wiring or supply or bad digital
wiring..
a
bad IDE digital cable would affect both drives on the same
functions,
low
power would also come up short when it came to burning, so you may
have
to open the box as last hope.

Update

Error correction (PJG's post) wasn't checked so tried that, but to
no
avail.
Tried kelly's Korner link...No joy.
I've been juggling "Enable CD Recording on this drive" on both
drives
just
to make sure one wasn't faulty.
Flashed Bios.
Updated Nvidia chipset.
Uninstalled both optical drives and let windows load em back.
Uninstalled I-tunes Ver 8 (Trying anything)
Changed from DMA to PIO and back.
Made sure IMAPI (or was it ATAPI?) runs automatically in services.
Googled intensly and found others with same issue different drives
and
systems but no real fix.
Insatalled logitechs ASPI layer ( early Version, as stated "More
stable")
and checked with ASPI checker.
Changed WMP from 9 to 11.
Removed KB929399 (read somewhere gave probs) no joy re- installed
fix.

Don't really want to get into opening up and checking cables &
power
supplies if possible due to unlikely
event of both drives failing simultaneously.
I can burn/read dvd data on both drives, read on both CD drives but
not
burn CD data.
But still none the wiser.

I don't know what else I can try...Anything I've missed?

Hi all

winxp pro SP3
Loadsa ram
dual core
**2 X lite on dvdrw LH-20A 1H**

I went to burn a cdr for audio cd using wmp9 and got an error
message;

"Windows Media Player cannot burn the files to the CD. Verify
that
the
disc is clean and not damaged. If necessary, select a slower
recording
speed or try a different brand of blank discs."

So I complied with that but to no avail. So i tried burning an
audio
cd
within i-tunes, and that failed aswell as Nero. I tried my CD/R
discs
on
another PC without a problem so next I installed WMP 11, but
still
the
same. Then after more googling I installed aspi files and
checked
with
an
aspi checker and they were installed properly and no probs were
reported,
I also loaded the latest firmware for the 2 optical drives but
still
the
same issue.

Now my heads totally batterd and I can't seem to find an answer.
I
can't
see it being an issue with the cdr's or the media programs so
that
just
leaves me believing something on my system is corrupted, or
settings
may
be wrong somewhere.

Please somebody put me out of my misery. also I changed dma to
pio
then
back and also tried burning at slower speeds and stopping
uneeded
services.
