What processes start about that time every night?

Any corresponding entry as a Scheduled Task? Start, All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks.

Jupiter has given a number of avenues to explore. Another Tool is Task
Manager accessed by Ctrl+Alt+Del. Task Manager is useful but you could look
at another freeware utility Process Explorer, which provides similar
information but adds that little bit extra towards seeing what the running

Do you have a Firewall installed? Are there any signs of modem activity?
