Default Xp Home Won't load. Help!

THis one has me puzzled. I recently pieced together a
second system for my wife to us. I install XP Home just
fine and even got some of the updates install. When I
reboot (without shutting the system down) it come back on
just fine. But if I shutdown (power off) and come back
like a hour later.... it shows the splash screen and
after the lights move a little it stalls out completely.
I have tried the restore system console on the Xp disk
and to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Go to the BIOS and look for "Hard disk pre delay" or similar.
Whatever the time is set, increase it a notch or 2.
This will give the hard drive a little more time to come up to speed.

Still sounds like a hardware issue.
Set the hard disk Pre Delay to the maximum if you haven't.

Power off, open case and reseat all cards and cables.

Double check the jumpers on the hard drive.

Do you have a spare hard drive you can install again to help verify it
is not a hard drive issue?
