Might is a lot to waste money and time on.

Is there a USB WiFi 6 adaptor?

When it comes out, it would have to be USB3
(to meet the datarate).

And the rest of the industry isn't ready yet.

Give it a year for Wifi 6.

And it's kinda strange to have hosts available
for Wifi 6 and not a lot of clients. I don't
know what that means. USB3 has 5V @ 900mA available,
so a fair amount of power, and you can't even
afford to use all of that, without the
dongle overheating. There's not a lot of
cooling options for dongles (considering
the 3D space available). You can't put big
fins on them. No room.

There are certainly things available for laptops -- you've even linked
to them.

There's just nothing available for "outdated" (for lack of a better
word) interfaces like PCI-e.

Same situation as:

IDE took over for discrete HDD controllers
EGA took over for CGA
VGA took over for EGA
PS/2 took over for AT (keyboard / mouse)
PCI took over for ISA (general expansion)
USB took over for basically everything (external connectivity)
AGP took over for PCI (graphics only)
DVI took over for VGA
SATA took over for PATA
PCI-e took over for AGP & PCI (general expansion)
DisplayPort took over for DVI
m.2 is taking over for PCI-e & SATA (certain laptop applications)

This will give you some idea how close they are.

Notice that they're waiting for some FCC determination
on Jan.24,2020 (yesterday!).

Cheers Paul. So is there an internal AC device I could use meanwhile?

This thread is an example of all the variability in the results
of changing modules.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/thre....728718/page-5

I can try a search like this. That gets me 7260 (more
than one type, be careful).

"802.11ac mini-pcie intel"

https://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/t...t-model.21229/

"Be aware before you buy, that there are three different versions
of the Intel7260 wireless adapter: One is b/g/n only, so you don't
want that one; there are two AC versions, one with Bluetooth/AC
and one AC only. The AC only is almost impossible to find, so just
be aware that whether you want BT or not, you'll probably just have
to live with it (you can always separately disable the BT in device
manager or in settings in Win8/8.1 if you do not want to use it; on
the other hand, if you do, it works very well)."

HMWWB and HMWWB.R, the .R one has a "compatibility sticker".

And don't expect miracles, as the thing is likely to only work
on one band at a time.

There's also a Broadcom one. The first review I read, seems to
think it works. It might be better for Windows than Linux.

https://www.amazon.ca/AzureWave-Broa...ustomerReviews

I think you'll find enough customer reviews, to get some idea just
how bad the drivers are for the various products. I have a couple
BT nano devices here, and they sucked pretty bad when trying to get
stuff running. As devices, they provide all the aggravation I
could ever need.

intel 7260 cards are great. Upgraded my dell XPS system to one of those
ages ago, couldn't be happier.

Well, until the unfortunate toddler incident.

Thanks to all.

I want AC and BT since I use both on my laptop.
But it is so confusing which one to go for. A
possibly simpler option would use a AC USB dongle
until a WiFi 6USB dongle arrives.
