Hi,
recently I ran CHKDSK and now each time I start my computer it automatically runs. Is there a way to stop this? I'm running XP SP2 Thanks in advance. |

The registry entry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\BootExecute may have an entry for 'autocheck' which can be removed. Microsoft Windows XP - Registry Editor overview: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true -- click the Ratings button. Hi, and thanks for yor reply.
My knowledge of these things is sadly very basic. How do I find and delete the entry? "Mark L. Thanks for your reply post. I found the registry entry and deleted it (just
clicled on it and pressed delete.) CHKDSK doesn't run on startup now, which is good. Instead, it comes up with a momentary message saying bootececute could not be found. Is there something I should do in order to stop this message from coming up? (I didn't change "/p \??\C:" with an asterisk, so maybe that's it?) You can add the "autocheck autochk *" setting easily with my reg file:
1. Copy between the lines 2. Paste into Notepad 3. Save-as BootExecute.reg (or any name + .reg) 4. Double-click or right-click and merge into the Registry ------------------------------------ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager] "BootExecute"=hex(7):50,00,44,00,42,00,6f,00,6f,00 ,74,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,65,\ 00,00,00,61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,65,00 ,63,00,6b,00,20,00,61,00,\ 75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,6b,00,20,00,2a,00,00 ,00,00,00 ------------------------------------ ju.c "drumh" wrote in message ... Instead of mucking about with the registry use Chkntfs to repair this.
Open a Command Prompt and issue this command: chkntfs /d This will restore the BootExecute value with its default settings. In the future if you find yourself again needing to stop Chkdsk on startup use chkntfs to cancel the chkdsk. For more help on the command search the Windows help files or use the /? switch with the command: chkntfs /? John drumh wrote: Thanks for your reply post.
