Restoring forward
Ok, I already know that I can restore my computer back to certain dates to
recover lost data and/or files. My question is can I reclaim lost data after a predated system restore and then restore the system back to the current date? Ie, I restored the system to a previous date, then created a restore date after deleting some old stuff. I want go back, recover the old stuff, and then restore teh system back to my current status. Can the system be restored back to a future date after a restore to a former date? |

Regular file backups do protect your files/folders. (Even copy/paste.) This seems to be what you are asking - about your files/folders - not system files/folders - is that correct? -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |

Restoring forward
I have done a system restore before using the system restore feature in
windows and files that were long gone reappeared so I know it is possible to reclaim files from a prior date. I am asking if I do a system restore to a prior date, can I restore it back the the current? |

If it happened (and they were files you created) and we are talking about the default "System Restore" feature in Windows XP - I assure you - it is not what System Restore is for. What system restore monitors/does not monitor: http://bertk.mvps.org/html/filesfolders.html More information about system restore can be found from the menu at the top of the given page. Using nothing more than logic - restoring to a previous date and then reverting back to the current date means you did nothing. I suggest you read this as well.. http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html Another page (not as comprehensive...) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm -- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP -- How To Ask Questions The Smart Way http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html |
