Default Not able to see some people as online but they can see me

I can see some people in my contact list as online and they can see me.
However, there are a couple of contacts whom I can't see online, but they can
see me. I've tried adding them, joining network. All to no effect. Other
people in the house can see these people online when they log into Live
Messenger, so it seems to be specific to my account.

Any suggestions?

Greetings David,

You will need to re-establish the relationship between yourself and these contacts to fix
this problem.

To do so, both you and these contacts need to remove each other from your respective contact
lists by opening the main contact list, and then right-clicking on the contact and choose
Delete. Next, you need to go into the Options by pressing the Alt key on the keyboard to
bring up the menu bar, then Tools, then Options, and then the Privacy category. Find the
contacts you just deleted on the list, right-click on them and choose Delete. If this Delete
option is not available (grayed out), your contact hasn't removed you from your contact list
and you'll have to wait until they do so. If you've waited awhile and it still grayed out,
sign out and back in for a quick refresh.

Finally, after this is complete, you can go ahead and re-add the contact and you'll magically
appear online to one another once again.
