Where does the Manufacturers list come from???
Ok,
I'm adding a printer on an XP Pro machine. Done it hundreds of times. This time when i get to the screen that has the Manufacturers listing on the left side and the printer on the rigth DELL is not listed on the left side. I need it to be there so I can use the Windows Update button to get a specifiic driver but without DELL listed on the left side as a manufacturer it's a no go. The driver I need is not on a disk or download form a site and can only be obtainded from the WIndow Update button on the printer install wizard. Is there a text file or something on the XP workstation that feeds that left side of avaiblebe manufactureres that i can put DELL in that will make it come up? Could not find any info on this anywhere. SD |

Where does the Manufacturers list come from???
Thanks. Here is some more einfo for you.....Dell has always been in the list
for me. The driver is for a Dell 2330d printer BUT although there are a lot of drivers avaiable and I have tried them all, the one that works with Terminal Server is the one obtaind by using the Windows Update feature in the ad printer wizard. It is not avaivle from dell bu tonly from th eWindows update servieces. Who knows why but that is the way it works. Please refer to the link below article to see how it works. I have done this on many PC's for a client and it works perfectly as long as DELL is listed in the Manufactures list. One this one PC DEll is not listed. Google is silent on the issue. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlog...ign/winup.mspx I would like to know if that manufactureers list is updatable. sd "Etaoin Shrdlu" wrote: On 2/5/2010 3:10 PM, sdmusicmaker wrote: Ok, I'm adding a printer on an XP Pro machine. Mine don't and the KB article that I linked to earlier doesn't mention it either. Notwithstanding that, you probably can find what you're looking for by going to the Windows Update Catalog site (as explained in the very article that *you* linked to). Mine don't and the KB article that I linked to earlier doesn't mention it either. Notwithstanding that, you probably can find what you're looking for by going to the Windows Update Catalog site (as explained in the very article that *you* linked to). I just did and there are 9 different drivers available there for the Dell 2330d Laser printer. Start he http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ Just for information purposes, that MS website uses ActiveX, so you won't be able to get to it using Firefox. . |
